Infosys Limited, a global leader in digital services, has developed and patented a Radiant Baffle system to enhance energy efficiency, acoustic comfort, and occupant well-being for commercial and institutional spaces. To bring this innovation to market, Infosys partnered with Bhoruka Fabcons Pvt. Ltd., a pioneer in aluminium engineering since 2007. It is manufactured at Bhoruka’s ISO 9001 and EN 15085-2 class 1 certified facility in Mysuru.

Monk Spaces conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and developed an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for Infosys Limited. The LCA adhered to internationally accepted standards, including ISO 14040, ISO 14044, ISO 14071, ISO 21930, and EN 15804:A2.

The assessment involves the following steps:

  1. PCR Identification – The first stage initiates with the identification of the PCR 2019:14 – Construction Productsfor the Radiant Baffle system. The PCR follows the General Program Instructions (GPI) of the International EPD System. It mandates the declaration of impact indicators like global warming potential (GWP), acidification potential (AP), and many others. The PCR also declares the mandatory modules to be included for the production (A1-A3), end-of-life (C1-C4), and benefits (D) stages.
  2. Data Collection – Based on PCR requirements, a detailed data collection sheet was developed for the manufacturer’s convenience. The data includes details on raw materials procurement, electricity and diesel consumption, manufacturing, and plastic packaging.
  3. Conducting LCA – Once the data is collected, Monk Spaces conducted the assessment in compliance with internationally recognised standards ISO 14040 and ISO 14044. This assessment was quantified using the Ecoinvent v3.11 database across core environmental impact categories (as per EN15804+A2), natural resource use parameters, waste categories parameters, and output flows. The LCA also recognised critical contributors to the environmental impacts and suggested measures for reduction.
  4. EPD Development – Following the analysis, the next step involves developing EPD. Once the LCA results were finalised, EPD was developed for the Radiant Baffle. The LCA results and other information are compiled for the EPD.
  5. EPD Verification: The EPDs were verified by an accredited third-party verifier associated with the International EPD System. Modifications were made wherever required in response to the verifier’s feedback. Effective coordination with the verifier ensured comprehensive responses to all queries and the timely provision of clarifications.
  6. EPD Publication: After approval from the verifier, the EPDs are uploaded onto the EPD portalof the International EPD system. This contains product information, result templates, LCA report, and verification statement. After approval from the EPD secretariat, the EPDs were published.

The resulting EPD (EPD-IES-0004492:002) provides a transparent declaration that supports Infosys and Bhoruka Fabcons in demonstrating their commitment to sustainable product innovation.
